The year 2010 was a special year for Epilepsy Action. We celebrated our 60th anniversary – our diamond jubilee.
We were set up as British Epilepsy Association at a meeting in London on 6 July 1950. A huge amount has happened in the field of epilepsy, and to us, in the sixty years since 1950.
We used this milestone year to look forward. We will continue to work towards our long-held goals of a society where people with epilepsy can live free from stigma, prejudice and discrimination.
History Wall
We produced our 'History Wall', a fascinating look at the major events and milestones for epilepsy. We revisited the events (both big and small) that Epilepsy Action has been involved in since its birth in 1950.
Wish wall
As we looked forward, we asked people for their wishes for the future? Their hopes, dreams, frustrations and ambitions, for themselves (if you have epilepsy) or for people with epilepsy in general?
Goodwill messages
We asked everyone to send us goodwill messages. Here’s a selection of the messages, including those by Victoria Wood, Antony Worrall Thompson and Gordon Brown.
Diamond Projects
To mark our Diamond Jubilee, Epilepsy Action launched an exciting new funding scheme to improve the lives of people with epilepsy.
Diamond Projects provides opportunities to reflect the broad spectrum of epilepsy. We hope the scheme leads to a long lasting legacy of success as projects deliver their goals in the future.
Epilepsy Today
Each edition of our members’ magazine during the year focussed on a different decade from the last 60 years. We looked at how epilepsy was treated in that decade, and what society’s views on epilepsy were.
