My greatest achievement is...

Never being held back! When I was diagnosed with epilepsy, aged 9, I was given a list as long as my arm as to the activities that were deemed "unsafe". Academically, my epilepsy was expected to leave me struggling. However, a keen learner and a determined (to the point of being stubborn!) girl, I was adamant that I wouldn't miss out. Now, aged 32, I not only excelled at school but went on to gain a BSc honours degree as a Behavioural Ecologist, worked at the University of Manchester's prestigious medical facility, gave up my own time to look after rescue donkeys and help children with special needs and learning difficulties (some also with epilepsy themselves). I go rock climbing and hiking. But the pinnacle of my achievements has to be my cheeky 2 year old, Freya. To all those diagnosed who, like me, were told "you can't": just remember, look after yourself, try hard and "YOU CAN!!"
