Work Capability Assessments
The Department for Work and Pensions is asking for evidence for an independent review of how the new Work Capability Assessments (WCAs) are working.
This consultation runs until September 10, 2010 and is for people in England, Wales and Scotland. You can view the consultation document, and see the questions by visiting http://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/work-cap-ass-call-for-evidence.pdf [PDF file]
The WCAs were introduced in October 2008 as part of wider reform of incapacity benefits. They replaced Personal Capability Assessment (PCA).
The government intends to reassess everyone on incapacity benefits between October 2010 and March 2014 to see if they are fit for work.
Epilepsy Action intends to respond to this consultation, but would strongly encourage anyone who has personal experience of a WCA to do as well.
If you have had a WCA but do not feel comfortable submitting your own comments, we would be very happy to receive them and to quote them in our response. If you have comments to pass on, please email pscott@epilepsy.org.uk
Seven questions have been asked. Anyone wishing to take part directly in this consultation should send their answers to
