Epilepsy awareness in schools project

August 2008

The epilepsy awareness in schools project is now in its third year, and since its launch in 2005 over 120 sessions have been delivered across the UK.

Our Accredited Volunteers deliver short training sessions which last around 30-45 minutes to groups of school staff. Whether it is during an inset day or after school – our volunteers will accommodate you as best they can.

The training provides staff with guidance on seizure first aid; key epilepsy facts; managing learning in children with epilepsy and preventing stigma.

The sessions are run in an informal environment which allows relaxed learning. Although the information is standard there is a section for questions which can be specifically tailored to your school setting.

'This exceeded my expectations: it clarified for me the facts from the fiction, and it reassured me as a teacher that it’s [epilepsy] okay and manageable when we encounter seizures.'
- Lee Manor School, London.

'The session was tailored beautifully to suit our needs!'
- Regina Coeli School, London.

'A very interesting video! Didn’t know that there were so many different types of epilepsy about, and how to deal with a child having a seizure.  Thank you.'
- Eccleshall Primary School, Sheffield.
