Epilepsy Services - Moving Ahead in Wales 2003
Epilepsy Action, along with three other epilepsy charities working in Wales, was involved in a workshop in Cardiff to look at developing a strategy for epilepsy services in Wales.
The meeting, addressed by the then health minister, Jane Hutt, and hosted by the chief nursing officer for Wales, Rosemary Kennedy, was organised to advise the Minister on an appropriate epilepsy strategy for Wales following the publication last year of the National Sentinel Clinical Audit of Epilepsy-Related Death.
The workshop was organised by Epilepsy Bereaved with sponsorship from the National Assembly for Wales and working in partnership with Epilepsy Action, Epilepsy Wales and Epilepsy Gwent.
Over 80 people attended the meeting which heard from the authors of the Audit Report and from clinicians and the voluntary sector on the current situation in Wales and what is required to bring services up to a satisfactory standard. A series of workshops were held which allowed all the individuals present to input in to the final report.
The report is authored by Jane Hanna, director of Epilepsy Bereaved, but is endorsed by the All Wales Epilepsy Forum (Epilepsy Action, Epilepsy Wales, Epilepsy Bereaved and Epilepsy Gwent) and the expert clinicians who participated in the workshop.
