The latest version of the new NICE Clinical Guidelines

The treatment guidelines produced by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, are being updated. A first ‘draft’ version of the new guideline was produced in August, and a second ‘draft’ was released in January.

These guidelines are important to us. Since they were first published in 2004, we have based a lot of our campaigning on getting the NICE guidelines fully implemented. Epilepsy Action believes that if the guidelines were met, there would be a good standard of health service for every person with epilepsy. You can see the latest draft on the NICE website or by requesting a copy from us.

Update on the Save our Sapphires campaign

Our campaign to protect and promote epilepsy specialist nurses hasn’t gone away. Although the launch is over, the campaign continues, and will do until there is stability in the NHS. We want to make sure that after changes are made, the current nurse posts are taken up by new GP consortia. We do not want any nurse posts to fall through the cracks. Then we have to work to make sure that consortium without nurses look to create new posts for their patients.

As always, if you are aware of problems with an epilepsy specialist nurse post where you are, please let us know and we will see how we can help.
