Health and beauty update

Thank you to everyone who has got in touch to share your experiences of discrimination from health and beauty providers. Our next step is to update Epilepsy Action’s policy statement on cosmetic treatments and beauty therapies (for example laser hair removal). This policy can then be issued to people working in the beauty industry. It will give reassuring information about the safety of beauty therapies on people with epilepsy. It will also remind therapists about their legal obligations in relation to the Equality Act and Disability Discrimination Act. Using Take epilepsy action, we will also provide information about epilepsy and first aid for epileptic seizures.

Epilepsy Action’s professional resource pack for GPs

Epilepsy Action has developed a professional resource pack for GPs. The pack has been developed by a group of epilepsy professionals to support GPs who care for people with epilepsy. In addition to epilepsy information, the pack contains practical tools to help GPs to meet the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) for epilepsy.  Currently GPs score points and are financially rewarded for delivering the standard of care set out in the QOF. In the next newsletter we will tell you about the pack’s 2012 launch, and how you can get involved in promoting the pack.
