Epilepsy Action Radio Day nominated at the 25 PR Week Awards

The PR Week awards are annual awards given to PR professionals. Unofficially billed as the PR Oscars- we were thrilled that Epilepsy Action Radio Day was nominated as finalists in the broadcast category.

The other finalists in this category were: Cause and credibility for Flip Video, Launch of PowerPlay Golf, iLaunch and WWE World Tour (world wrestling entertainment).  Unfortunately, we didn’t win the broadcast award. That honour went to WWE World Tour. However it was an honour to be nominated and to have PR professionals confirming what your positive feedback already told us: “Epilepsy Action Radio Day was a great success”.  Epilepsy Action Radio day couldn’t have been a success without your support - so thank you for listening. You can listen to all the pod casts from Epilepsy Action Radio Day again on our website.

Prime Minister considering the epilepsy Ten Minute Rule Bill

David Cameron PM, met MPs Valerie Vaz and Laura Sandys, Professor Helen Cross and a party from the Joint Epilepsy Council including Epilepsy Action’s Simon Wigglesworth.

The meeting on 12 October was very positive. The group discussed the short comings in health and education services for people with epilepsy. Mr Cameron promised to raise these issues with the departments for health and education. He also offered to help the Joint Epilepsy Council raise the profile of epilepsy and tackle stigma. In a very important move, he also agreed to consider Valerie Vaz’s epilepsy Ten Minute Rule Bill.

Valerie Vaz MP said: "We see this meeting as a turning point. The Prime Minister’s support is very valuable."

You can do yoga

In the last edition we told you how an adult education centre in London had closed a number of classes to people with epilepsy. As part of our investigation, Epilepsy Action has now spoken to representatives from The British Wheel of Yoga and Iyengar. Both yoga schools stressed that epilepsy is not a barrier to taking part in a yoga classes, and have taken steps to remind yoga teachers that people with epilepsy can do yoga.
