The Celebration of Life book - Peter Dolan
Peter John Dolan
Born 16 March 1978
You were a lovely contented baby, growing into a happy little boy. You developed a food intolerance, which deprived you of all the nice things children like to eat, but you coped admirably, even when you were hospitalised at the age of six.
You and your older brother Matt had the usual arguments but there was also love and respect and of course lots of good times. Both of you joined the Boys Brigade and had some great times, especially at camp. School was okay and you had some good friends. You always looked out for the underdog.
It was whilst at college that you were diagnosed epileptic. The first thing you did was to tell your friends & tutors. That was very brave. Your mates, dad, me and Matt always managed to be there for you when you needed us, except that last time when you were alone. If only…
You died on 25th January 1996, aged 17.
We love and think of you every day Pete.
Mum, Dad & Matt
In Memory of our son Peter John Dolan, also brother to Matt, with love.
I’ll lend to you for a little time a child of mine He said
For you to love the while he lives and mourn for when he’s dead
It may be six or seven years or twenty-two or three
But will you till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you and should his stay be brief
You’ll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief
I cannot promise he will stay since all from Earth return
But there are lessons taught down there that I wish this child to learn
I’ve looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes, I have selected you
Now will you give him all your love and nor think the labour vain
Nor hate me when I come to call to take him back again?
I fancied that I heard them say 'Dear Lord thy will be done'
For all the joy your child shall bring the risk of grief we’ll run
We’ll shelter him with tenderness, we’ll love him while we may
And for the happiness we’ve known forever grateful stay
But should the angels call for him much sooner than we planned
We’ll have the bitter grief, and try to understand.
