Lisa and Tristan Allen will be remembering their daughter, Merryn, who died from sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) in 2009.
Our Merryn was beautiful, bright, energetic, funny, joyful and courageous, a child full of love and life.
Epilepsy struck her down when she was just hitting her stride, about to move forward into 'big' school and young adult life. She was just 10 years old when she died and she is missed more than it is possible to describe.
“We heard nothing about SUDEP from Merryn’s doctors. We had only read about it on the Epilepsy Action website, but we just thought ‘that’s nothing we need to worry about’ and moved on.
We need to talk about SUDEP. We need to be honest and tell people it can happen. It does happen. Thankfully not very often, but you have to be aware of it. That’s why we, Merryn’s family, welcome this appeal by Epilepsy Action.”
