Legacies are only for the wealthy- I need to provide for my family and my own care in later life
- It’s difficult and expensive to make or change a will
- I’m not sure what will happen in the future
“Legacies are only for the wealthy”
A gift in your will is simply another way of supporting a cause that has made a difference in your life, or a the life of someone you love.
The gift you make can be as high or modest in value as you wish. It can simply give a share of whatever is left after all financial commitments have been paid and gifts to loved ones made.
“I need to provide for my family and my own care in later life”
For that very reason, a gift in your will may well be the best way for you to support people with epilepsy. You can be safe in the knowledge that you will have a lasting impact on a cause that is close to your heart, while being sure you can still provide for yourself and those closest to you in your lifetime.
“It’s difficult and expensive to make or change a will”
We strongly recommend you make or amend your will with the services of a solicitor. Even if you are writing your will for the first time, it needn’t be difficult or expensive. You could expect to pay as little as £50-£100 for a simple will.
The relatively small cost will buy you peace of mind that your will is legally binding. Our charitable status may even reduce the inheritance tax your loved ones must pay after your death.
“I’m not sure what will happen in the future”
None of us know what is around the corner. You should review your will regularly to check it is right for your current circumstances.
Including a gift in your will today does not put you under any obligation to include it in future revisions of your will. If you need to, you can remove the gift as easily as you can add it – though of course, we sincerely hope you won’t.
