Our partnership with Tysers

Tysers are an insurance broker authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

Any offer of insurance, and the premium charged, remains a commercial decision based on a calculation of risk by the insurer / underwriter sourced by Tysers. This will include factors associated with your epilepsy.

Contacting Tysers does not guarantee an offer of insurance. Epilepsy Action cannot take responsibility for the cover of a policy or the outcomes of any claims.

I thought this site was meant to help people with epilepsy. But instead all they do is discriminate you. I have held a licence for over 15 years but stopped driving for 10 years through my Epilepsy. I am now able to drive again and they say i have only just got my licence even my licence says i have had it 15 years. They want me to pay £332 deposite then £365.00 per month. Can someone please tell me how the hell they are helpping me?

I have held a full UK driving licence since 1993 and have had to surrender it twice now through bad periods of epilepsy. I have now not driven a car for 4 years and thought I would try this website to help me obtain car insurance. I am very pleased with the quote given!! £347 for the year!! I will definatley be taking you up on your offer! Thank you!

Hello Maxine. Thanks for your comment. I can understand how frustrated you must be. Sadly, the insurance market generally, not just insurers sourced through Tysers, will be likely to regard you as a new driver because of the long break in your driving. You will already realise this means you can’t benefit from a no-claims discount which can be worth as much as 75 per cent. I would recommend you obtain other quotes to confirm this for yourself and consider things like buying a low insurance grouping car, restricting the drivers and garaging to help bring the premium down to a realistic level. Please let us know how you get on.

12 months after surgery, back in 1996, I finally became seizure free. I was told by the medical services + DVLA to apply for my provisional license. I passed my driving test in 2000. I purchased insurance from a third party. The link to this third party broker was via 'epilepsy action' ('EA') . I trusted the relationship between these two parties ensured that I had the best deal. The cost was approximately £700+. Three months into this package, I did more research and found out that the AA had no problem with my current and previous medical condition/s. They quoted me approximately £450.00. I contacted the EA recommended brokers. They could not give me a better deal. I replied that I would like to terminate the insurance. I had to pay a termination fee. I phoned the EA. They appeared to distance themselves from the issue. i.e. gave no clear answer to my questions – saying that they were 'not recommending the brokers', who were advertising the deals, via the EA. I asked the EA phone operator whether these brokers were taking advantage of a possible lack of confidence and lack of experience that new drivers have in this area? – they responded to the effect that EA are not responsible for the quotes, via this third party. Time for a watchdog investigation?

Thank you for your comment. I’m sorry to hear you ultimately found a cheaper car insurance deal. As we state on all our insurance pages, the offer of insurance and the premium charged, is a commercial decision by the insurers and underwriters – it is not a charitable service provided by us.

We cannot and do not say it will be the best deal and would always suggest you shop around. This is particularly the case for motor insurance which has a notoriously competitive and changing market – you may find the premium you are offered at your renewal anniversary is vastly different again. Hopefully it will be cheaper still! The employment of a ‘termination fee’ is quite standard and should have been included in your policy wording.

We don’t have any reason to suspect foul play by any of the brokers or insurance contacts we work with, and rest assured if we did we would immediately suspend the charity’s partnership with them. Thank you again for your comments.
