Making a formal appeal

If your informal appeal to the driving agency isn’t successful, and you still believe their decision is unlawful, you can make a formal appeal. This should be to your local Magistrates’ Court (for England and Wales) or Sheriff Court (for Scotland).

To appeal to a Magistrates’ Court you have six months from the date of the driving agency’s decision. To appeal to a Sheriff Court you have 21 days from the date of the driving agency’s decision.

Details of the appeals process should be sent to you at the time of the licence decision.

If your informal appeal to the driving agency isn’t successful, and you still believe their decision is unlawful, you can make a formal appeal. This should be to your local Magistrates’ Court.

You have to make your appeal within three months from the date of issue of the decision letter.

Details of the appeals process should be sent to you at the time of the licence decision.
