If your child has transport to and from school organised by the authority, for example a school bus, the authority should provide properly trained drivers and escorts. This may mean an escort receives training in first aid for seizures or how to give emergency medicine. The driver and/or escort may need to read and perhaps keep a copy of your child’s Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP).
Further information is available in Managing medicines in schools and early years settings, available from Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) publications.
We can provide references and information on the source material we use to write our epilepsy advice and information pages. Please contact our Epilepsy Helpline by email at helpline@epilepsy.org.uk.
