Disclosing epilepsy

This information applies to people in the UK only. If you live outside the UK, then more information about epilepsy and employment where you are will be available from your local epilepsy organisation.

If an employee’s seizures are well controlled and will not affect their ability to do the job safely and effectively, they may feel it isn’t necessary to tell you about their epilepsy. Man and woman in meetingIt is a personal decision and is not illegal, so long as the person concerned will not be endangering themselves or others.

However, if the seizures become more frequent or severe and reasonable adjustment is needed, they can tell you about their epilepsy and you will need to recognise that they are covered by the Disability Discrimination Act from that point.
