The race

The race is in memory of Alice Redmond, a Leeds Metropolitan University student who worked at Epilepsy Action on placement and who sadly passed away in 2005. The race will start at 10.30am at Brearley Field in Mytholmroyd and will finish at Calder High School. There will be T-shirts for all the finishers, and prizes for male and female first, second and third as well as veterans.

In addition to the main race there will also be a mile junior trail race for ages 8-11 and 12-14. This will start at 9.45am in Brearley Field. There will also be a 1km children’s fun run at 10.45am at Calder High School field. All finishers of both races will receive a medal.

Car parking and changing facilities will be available, and refreshments for runners and spectator entertainment will be provided.

The course

The race is perfect for serious runners and first-timers alike. The course is a 10k (6 mile) multi-terrain race set in beautiful countryside in Mytholmroyd, near Hebden Bridge on Sunday 30 August 2009. View the course on mapmyrun.com

Apart from the rain and breaking my leg (ok, a stress fracture!!) I loved it. You must do this. Maybe I'll see Steph from Hollyoaks this year

A great race ,well supported and already in the diary for 2009.

This is a good event. It has potential to develop into a really, really good race..hence more entries this year and many more club and non club runners. This is my second year and I will be back for more. My thanks to some extremely friendly marshalls and a pretty slick organisation. As a race director myself I know that putting together such an event can be a bit of a challenge!!

As far as I am concerned only one area is lacking. Results. Almost all running events provide results on the day of the race...most during the race as early finishers come in. Again almost all races then post such results to the web on the same day, usually within a couple of hours. Having to wait 5-6 days for results is not really on for an event which deserves to be viewed as highly credible as this one does.

Great race again and good conditions under foot. This was my third Alice's Run and as ever, friendly, good course, well managed. My only negative is the need for a marshaling point where Caldene Avenue meets Calder Brook Garage - each year runners run straight on in front of the garage/engineering works on the flat and miss the left turn and short climb up the railway embankment behind the garages. It felt a bit lonely running up there on my own this year while everyone else went on ahead!
Looking forward to 2009.

Great Race. I love to see Alice's name on all the signs as I am running. Well run and everyone very friendly. Looking forward to next year

Great Race. Enjoyed all the differing terrain, including the slippy bend where I managed to land on my backside. I have to agree that the results should be out sooner. One other thing. The T-Shirt. Any chance of a different choice of momento. I get tired of being handed T-Shirts, especially ones that I will never wear.

Got to be the toughest 10k I've done, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done to the organisers & marshalls for making a great event. I'll be back!!!!!

Tough, but enjoyable multi-terrain 10k, reasonably well organised but there were three three things that need sorting out for next year:

Water station on route
Faster results service
Large mattress to soften the impact as Graham (Dodo) Dyson falls to earth

Steve Boyer, Stainland Lions

I agree about the results. I asked for my time and was given an 'approximate' time which was 5 minutes more than the guys from Stainland Lions i finished with had on their watches. Was there a problem with the start time or were they cheating? Ha ha. On a positive note - I didn't break my leg this year! I'll be back next year.

Another really enjoyable run this year, and thankfully a bit drier than last year! A big thank you to all the marshalls, who were cheerful and charming to a man/woman.
My only gripe is the exit from the first field - I'm not a pb-hound, but having to queue for a full 2 minutes to get out of a tiny exit when there's a huge gateway just down the road seems ridiculous, and not really sustainable for the number of runners the event is now attracting. I'd completely cooled down and lost my stride by the time I got out of the field! Since the course was different to last years', could it be changed again next year to allow the runners an easier exit from that first field?

Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the run. I'll be back next year!

2nd Year I've attended and was really hard going for me having been ill beforehand and my training falling by the wayside.

Still a great run and very enjoyable morning for all of us, my youngest children did the fun run and loved it and despite getting a worse time than last year I still completed for which I was grateful.
Put to shame by my girlfriend's brother who won the Over 40s ....

Thanks to Rosanna and all the epilepsy action crew for a great morning and thanks to all the stewards as well.

A couple of others have commeted on a great event - not possible to add more than has been said, can only agree.

As for results....what's going on? The results were robust enough to offer prizes etc on the day, surely the results must have been available since Monday at least? Why are we still waiting? We have paid a reasonable sum for a good event and the lack of results is not on. I know that there is a requirement to make a few quid for a charity etc but please use a results service next year. It usually works out at less than a £ per head and is cash well spent. It will further add much more credibilty to the event and attract more participants. Saying 'results by friday' does not mean you have to wait 'till friday, it means on or before!

Sorry to moan.

I must say, I agree with Mick Hogan re the results. Surely it doesn't take a week to type them up? Apart from that, very well organised and a great course. I'll be back next year!

Great race, interesting course, with a little bit more ascending than I'd anticipated (1300 ft according to my Garmin).

A big disappointment that the results aren't even up at 9.20 on the 5th.

Steve

These results are absolutely meaningless without names/sex/categories! Will you be updated them with the required information?

Are there any results from the Junior Trail Race?

Fab race! Real shame about the results. PLEASE tell me you are going to add names to the results already provided? 5 days on and I'm afraid I have no idea what my race number was, so the results are meaningless to me!

Great event, great cause shame about the lack of any meaningfull results.

The full results have now been published, displaying position, race times, names and gender. They can be found by clicking the link at the top of the page.

Epilepsy Action would like to thank all runners who participated in Alice's Run 2008 and thank runners for their patience with displaying results.

Again just to add brilliant race, well done to epilepsy action for organising the event. But just to add to Marc Collet's comments re marshalling point at the end of Caldene, i don't think it was only me and Marc who noticed this fault. Through no fault of their own many people in essence took a short cut. Otherewise well organised event that obviously took a great deal of time and effort to put on. Well Done . Lynne
