Explore the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco ~ Hike the highest mountain in North Africa, Mt Toubkal

Join this long–weekend trekking challenge as we tackle the highest mountain in North Africa, Mt Toubkal. Come and experience the exotic delights of Morocco on this ultimate five day adventure!

Moroccan mountains

We will experience stunning scenery, breathtaking views and warm friendly people on this short trek in the Atlas Mountains. Life has changed very little for the Berber people in this region and we are lucky to see first hand their life–style and culture as we discover the real Morocco.

We will surely be challenged as we approach the summit. The terrain is demanding and will test us, but upon reaching our goal and looking across the Northern African plains, our rewards will be more than worthwhile!

To celebrate our achievements, we end our weekend adventure in the bustling city of Marrakech. We can take some time to relax, enjoy the local cuisine and even haggle over a bargain in the souks of Marrakech.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Depart UK for flight to Marrakech

Upon our arrival, we will meet our local guides and transfer to our hotel. Tonight there will be a briefing about the challenge ahead.

Day 2 – Marrakech to Nelter Hut (3,210m)

We transfer to the start point of our challenge – Imlil (1,740m) where we meet our trusty mules and prepare for the trek. We then trek to Aroumd (1,920m) and push on slower uphill crossing some rivers. We then ascend up to Nelter Hut where we can relax and prepare for our summit attempt tomorrow.

Day 3 – Summit day! Mt Toubkal (4,167m)

Today we tackle the summit. This is a long rugged trek; from grassy green meadows we then negotiate scree and boulders as we trek higher into soaring peaks. Weather permitting, upon reaching the summit, we will see the plains of Marrakech and to the south we will see the Siroua range of mountains. We then descend back to Nelter Hut.

Day 4 – Nelter Hut to Marrakech

Continuing our descent, we finally reach Aroumd, where we will wave goodbye to our muleteers and take our transfer back to Marrakech. This evening, we celebrate our achievements Morocco style at our presentation dinner. Dancing is more than welcome!

Day 5

After breakfast we have some free time to explore the delights of Marrakech before taking the transfer back to the airport for our flight back to the UK, arriving the same day.

Please note that while we make every effort to stick to this schedule and the accommodation stated, this is subject to alteration.
