About the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge Day Walk

The Yorkshire Three Peaks 12 hour challenge takes place in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, an area of brooding fells, broad green dales and spectacular waterfalls! The park is dominated by the wild peaks of Pen-y-ghent (694 metre), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres).

The challenge is to follow a circular route of 25 miles on unevent terrain over these three peaks in 12 hours. The start and finish are situated in the picturesque village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

You will be guided throughout the event. You will follow limestone paths (although some sections are boggy) through a series of checkpoints, staffed by the events team of Mountain and Glen. In addition, further Mountain Leaders will be on the route itself at all times.  Each checkpoint will provide a water re-supply and hot drinks.

Participants will need to have a good level of basic fitness and stamina - this is nearly the same distance as a marathon! You will be walking on some very boggy and uneven ground and should have some basic walking experience. You will need to be well prepared for a rapid change in weather conditions.
