The Voice of Epilepsy
Epilepsy Action is the biggest membership-led epilepsy organisation in the world. As a membership organisation we are governed by the same people who direct our work; the work we do is directed by people whose lives are affected by epilepsy and we act as the voice for epilepsy.
As well as our actions directly helping over 550,000 people each year, we are also active in campaigning and educating the public and government about epilepsy. Our press office regularly get epilepsy stories across in over 75 national publications and 1,500 regional publications: coverage that would cost us over £650,000 if we had to pay for the space.
In addition:
- Our members, supporters and staff regularly appear in radio and TV interviews - averaging at least one interview every week.
- Our We Can... campaign (Women with Epilepsy) has resulted in some 40 radio, newspaper and magazine stories.
- Our public relations team work closely with TV writers and programme makers, resulting in epilepsy being featured on programmes like 'Holby City' and 'Casualty'.
- The Westminster All Party Parliamentary Group continues to grow, with more and more MPs and Peers taking up the cause of epilepsy.
- We regularly respond to government papers on health and epilepsy.
- Epilepsy Action works closely with bodies such as BBC2, ITC, WYMAS, Medication in Schools Group, the Epilepsy and Learning Disability Project Team, the Law Society’s Disability Group and the Disability Rights Commission.
Epilepsy is moving up the political and health agenda. However, it costs money to make that voice heard. Which is why remembering Epilepsy Action in your Will can ensure that our voice continues to be heard, and government and health
professionals act in response to that voice.
“You are providing a great service - it is good to know my [money is] being put to such great use. Thank you.”
