Leaving A Legacy to Epilepsy Action

If you would like to leave a legacy to Epilepsy Action, you will find the preferred wording for your solicitor below for both a residuary and pecuniary bequest:

Residuary bequest

"I give to Epilepsy Action (which is a working name of British
Epilepsy Association) of New Anstey House, Gate Way Drive, Yeadon, Leeds LS19 7XY, Registered Charity no. 234343 …percentage amount of my residual estate…..and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper Officer of the said charity shall be a full and sufficient discharge of the same."

Pecuniary bequest

"I give to Epilepsy Action (which is the working name of British
Epilepsy Association) of New Anstey House, Gate Way Drive, Yeadon, Leeds LS19 7XY, Registered Charity no. 234343 …specific amount of money…..and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper Officer of the said charity shall be
a full and sufficient discharge of the same."

Donations in memory

You may like your friends to remember you with donations to Epilepsy Action instead of flowers at your funeral. This is something that you can add into your Will or ask your solicitor to keep a note of your wishes with your Will.

Inheritance Tax

First, the good news! Currently more than 96 per cent of estates
do not have to pay any inheritance tax, because they are below the inheritance tax threshold. However, if your estate is worth more than the threshold set by Parliament each year, you will be liable to pay tax on any amount above the threshold.

If this is the case, it is definitely worth discussing with a solicitor or financial advisor ways to reduce this tax burden. Gifts to UK charities like Epilepsy Action, however, are exempt from inheritance tax, so a bequest to us automatically reduces the tax burden. A gift in a Will to a spouse is also exempt.
