Organise a National Tea Break

We’d really like you to organise a Tea Break and with our organiser’s starter pack it couldn’t be easier!

You can choose to either organise a private Tea Break that will be open to your own guests only, or organise a public event which will be open for anyone to attend.

Public event

The date, time and venue of your Tea Break will be listed on our website and will be made available to anyone who wants to attend a Tea Break in their area. We may also include these details in any press releases about your Tea Break.

Private event

We will not disclose any details of your event to anyone either on our website or in any of our communication, except for in a press release (if you have requested one).

Your pack will be sent to you early in September. Each one is full of goodies such as:

  • An organiser's guide full of useful hints and tips

  • Posters to promote your event

  • Invitation cards to send to friends, family or work colleagues

  • Entry cards so all your guests can enter the free prize draw

  • Recipe cards from comedians Stephen Fry and Victoria Wood, top chefs Antony Worral Thompson and Alan Coxon and fitness expert Rosemary Conley.

  • Balloons and flags

  • Paying-in slips for all your donations

  • Samples of tea

  • A publicity pack (if you have requested one)

National Tea Break in your school

Many of our National Tea Break events take place in schools and are organised by teachers, pupils or parents. It can be a great opportunity for learning about different countries that produce tea, different types of tea or for adding an extra twist to food technology lessons.

Students could serve staff tea and biscuits at break; invite parents to a tea morning; sell fruit teas at the tuck box or run a world cafe - discover the tea customs from Japan, Morocco and even Chile. Or you could simply have a best tea joke competition!

Students at Barnard Castle Prep School have taken part in National Tea Break since 2004 and, over the years, have raised over £1,100. In 2006 pupils were asked to bring along their favourite mugs (pictured).

Visit our ‘teefax’ page or for more ideas and tea related information please visit The UK Tea Council's Tea 4 Schools pages.

National Tea Break in your workplace

National Tea Break in the workplaceThere are lots of ways to participate in National Tea Break at work. You could set up a tea roster with a sign-up fee, hold a ‘name that cuppa’ quiz, have a massage morning - share your massage skills or get a professional in or even get your boss to be a tea dolly for the day!

It can be a great team building event that everyone can easily join in with.

Staff at The Alliance and Leicester offices in Leeds really enjoyed their National Tea Break and raised £411!

National Tea Break in your community venue

Community centres and village halls are a good place to hold your National Tea Break because they often have some catering facilities and can hold more people!

You could set up a stall and sell tea to parched passers by, create a stress-free zone, and pamper your guests with cold teabags on the eyes and a zesty lemon tea pick-me-up, or offer tea leaf readings.

Don’t forget that we can help you to publicise your event - simply complete the publicity form in your organiser’s pack.

National Tea Break in your cafe

If you own a cafe or tea room, or know someone who does, we would really like you to join in the fun by organising a National Tea Break event. It would take very little extra organisation – you already have the key things needed for a Tea Break: tea, cake and people!

We can help you to publicise your event by providing you with: templates for press releases, larger A3 size posters and balloons and flags.

You could have a tea tasting or organic tea day, have a traditional ‘afternoon tea’ or simply give a proportion of the day’s sales to National Tea Break.

Publicity

Publicise your Tea Break by sending a press release to local newspapers.
