Out in the Open walk logoOut in the Open, walk for epilepsy

Across the UK, Sunday 18 May 2008

David BaddielDavid Baddiel says:

"Organising an Out in the Open walk is a great way to raise funds and awareness for epilepsy, whilst having fun with friends and family. They are so easy to organise – you can have them anywhere and invite whoever you like! What’s more, every penny you raise will make a difference to the 456,000 people in the UK with epilepsy”

Out in the Open walksWhat is an Out in the Open walk?

Join thousands of people (and dogs!) up, down and across the country and walk for epilepsy in celebration of National Epilepsy Week.

Anyone can organise a walk anywhere! We’ve had walks from city centres, National Parks and reservoirs, to race circuits, country house gardens and along the seafront. Anything is possible - last year walks ranged from school groups doing laps of their playground to a countryside walk in Montreuil, France!

How can you get Out in the Open?

Out in the Open walkersIt is easy to organise a walk in your local area! It’s up to you how long, short, easy or tough you make it and how many people you want to join you. We’ve had everything from tens to hundreds of walkers!

To be a walk organiser, all you need to do is register your walk with Melanie Taylor in the Fundraising team, decide where it will take place and get your friends and family involved. Next, you publicise it in your local area – which we can help you with – and then get walking!

Out in the Open walkers

If you don’t want to organise your own Out in the Open event, then keep an eye on our website for details of your nearest walk (or contact the fundraising team) and join in with that instead.

Out in the Open walkersIf you’re not a keen walker, then don’t worry. To get Out in the Open and to help us celebrate National Epilepsy Week, you could organise a run, cycle ride, coffee morning or a picnic instead (or anything else you can think of!). We just want you to join us and to enjoy yourself.

If you would like to organise an Out in the Open event, please contact the walk hotline on 0113 210 8800 or email mtaylor@epilepsy.org.uk

So, put on your walking shoes and bring epilepsy Out in the Open and help us make the 2008 walk for epilepsy the best yet!
