In a statement, Teva said:
"Teva UK Limited has discontinued the Ivax branded Carbamazepine (known as Epimaz), due to manufacturing issues.
"The 200mg tablets were discontinued in June 2007, and the 400mg tablets in November 2007. The Department of Health were advised of the discontinuations at the time.
"The branded version of Carbamazepine, Tegretol, is still available, as are other generic versions of the drug.
"Patients currently taking the IVAX brand of Carbamazepine from Ivax are advised to consult their GP or pharmacist for advice."
13 December 2007: Teva Ltd, who are responsible for Epimaz (a generic form of carbamazepine), stopped manufacturing the drug in October, due to manufacturing problems. They are hoping to ‘re-launch’ Epimaz next year, but cannot guarantee this will happen. The branded version of carbamazepine, Tegretol, will continue to be available.
If you have any concerns, please speak to your GP or pharmacist.
