Paraldehyde
Submitted by Mark@Epilepsy Action on 9 January, 2007 - 10:00.
We have become aware of problems with the availability of paraldehyde, which is used to treat status epilepticus. The manufacturer of paraldehyde, Mayne Pharma, has confirmed that they are not able to produce the drug at present. A small number of people taking paraldehyde will be affected.
Mayne Pharma has advised that alternative products are available and patients taking paraldehyde should consult with their GP for advice. They cannot say when they expect to be able to begin producing paraldehyde again, but this is unlikely to be until late 2007.
