People with photosensitive epilepsy should not watch the music video for Kanye West’s latest single, All of the Lights, as it contains extensive use of flashing imagery.
We sent the video to Cambridge Research Systems to be analysed by the HardingFPA machine. This machine looks at whether video footage is likely to cause seizures. We have today had confirmation that it contains material that may cause seizures in some people with photosensitive epilepsy.
Ofcom regulations mean that this video should not be broadcast on UK television. However, it is available online in a number of places. We are in the process of trying to contact Kanye West’s agent, YouTube and other online sources of the video to ask that they take it down. We have also contacted MTV and other TV stations to make them aware of the issue. We will pursue this and provide updates on our website as we have them.
If you have concerns or have been affected by this video, please contact the Epilepsy Helpline on freephone 0808 800 5050 or by emailing helpline@epilepsy.org.uk . People outside the UK can call us on +44 113 210 8800 or find your local epilepsy organisation here http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/about/international-epilepsy-organisations

It is estimated that 1 in every 100 people in the world has some form of this disorder, and as a result, will experience a seizure of some type at one point in their lifetime. Even if the seizures are considered to be mild, they will still need to be treated, as they can occur at any time and can literally be life threatening if they occur when you are driving, walking in congested areas, as well as some physical activities such as swimming. If a child experiences epilepsy, in most every case, they will outgrow it; but this is not true if it occurs after childhood.
