Didsbury orchestral concert for epilepsy charity

The Manchester Beethoven Orchestra is hosting a concert to raise vital funds to help support the 600,000 people affected by epilepsy in the UK.

The concert, on Saturday 28 January at Christ Church, Didsbury, will raise money for Epilepsy Action. The orchestra has chosen to support Epilepsy Action this year as one of its members has been affected by epilepsy. Entrance to the concert is free and a collection will be taken for Epilepsy Action.

Concern over guidance on prescribing anti-epileptic drugs

National charity Epilepsy Action has expressed concern today over the new National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guideline for the epilepsies. The guideline, which applies to England and Wales, ‘The epilepsies: the diagnosis and management of the epilepsies in adults and children in primary and secondary care’ was published today.

European declaration on epilepsy is a crucial step forward

An article in the latest edition of Seizure, the European Journal of Epilepsy, focuses on the recent ‘European Written Declaration on Epilepsy’. The declaration was recently passed by the European Parliament in Brussels and has been welcomed by epilepsy organisations across Europe.

U-turn on withdrawal of treatment for people with epilepsy

A campaign to make a treatment for epilepsy available to people in the West Midlands has taken a major step forward. It was announced today that West Midlands Specialised Commissioning Trust (WMSCT) has agreed to pay for vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) as a treatment for people with epilepsy.

Leeds epilepsy event for young people and families

National charity Epilepsy Action is hosting Upfront - a creative event for teenagers with epilepsy and their families in Leeds. The event is for young people with epilepsy and their families to explore issues surrounding the condition and meet others affected by epilepsy.

A warning has been issued to cinemas that are screening the new Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 film, following reported instances of cinema goers having epileptic seizures after watching a scene in the film.

Stoke-on-Trent social raises £1,000 for local epilepsy group

A social event at Silverdale Working Men’s Club, Newcastle-under-Lyne, has raised £1,025 for the Stoke-on-Trent Branch of national charity Epilepsy Action.

The event was organised by Steve and Debbie Nixon from Cross Heath, Newcastle-under-Lyne. The Nixons decided to raise funds for the charity as Mr Nixon has epilepsy. The event included a raffle and auction. A donation of £100 was also made on the night.

Saltaire reindeer run for epilepsy charity

A stampede of reindeer is set to take over Saltaire this festive season, as national charity Epilepsy Action launches the second ever Reindeer Stampede. The 5k fun run will raise funds to support the 600,000 people affected by epilepsy in the UK.
