Crawling to the top for charity (Shoeburyness)

15 October, 2007

Cathy and Graham Wilkinson from Shoeburyness, Essex, will be climbing Ben Nevis this October to help raise awareness of epilepsy.

At 4,406 feet, Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Britain. On the weekend of October 26-28 2007, members and supporters of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity, will be climbing the mountain to raise funds and awareness of the condition.

Cathy comments: “I have never done an event like this before and am being spurred on by my husband, who completed the climb a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it! It will be great to do the climb as a team and meet others who are also there to help raise money for a worthy cause.”

Cathy Continues: “I will also be holding a collection at the Asda store in Shoeburyness on October 17 from 10am – 2pm to help raise funds for Epilepsy Action. It would be great if people could come along and support me on the day.”

Accommodation will be provided in Fort William and the organisers promise a fun weekend. Walkers will be accompanied by experienced guides and qualified first-aiders. There will be no climbing or scrambling involved and the maximum gradient is 1 in 5. Participants are asked to raise a minimum £375 sponsorship to cover costs and to benefit the charity.

Epilepsy Action is also appealing for people to join their next Ben Nevis event taking place in May 2007. If you would like to find out more about the event, please call the fundraising team at Epilepsy Action on 0113 210 8800 or visit www.epilepsy.org.uk.
