Epilepsy Action arrives in Southend

7 September, 2007

Epilepsy Action, the UK’s leading member-led epilepsy charity are hoping to recruit volunteers to start a local branch of the charity Epilepsy Action, to support people with epilepsy and their families in Southend.

Anyone with an interest in epilepsy is invited to attend the first meeting of the new branch on Saturday 22 September 2007. Registration is from 10.00am and coffee will be served from 10.30am until 12.30pm. The meeting will be held at The Cliffs Pavilion, Westcliff on Sea, Southend.

The morning will consist of information about Epilepsy Action’s branch network and regional services as well as an interactive workshop for delegates to take part in. There will also be the chance to meet other volunteers and people with an interest in epilepsy and also to share experiences.

The meeting is being held to assess the level of interest in Southend to enable Epilepsy Action to look towards forming a new branch. If there is sufficient interest following the meeting, Epilepsy Action will provide further support to potential committee members in stages over the following months.

David Powell, Epilepsy Action’s regional services manager for Central England said: “Epilepsy Action’s national network of branches is run by volunteers and aims to offer support and information at a local level. The group is open to anyone, whether a person with epilepsy themselves, a parent or carer, family member, friend or just someone who wants to help out. If you are interested in joining, please come along; you will be made very welcome.”
