Get “Out In The Open” For Charity (Bury St Edmunds)

16 May, 2007

Volunteers from Epilepsy Action’s Bury St Edmunds branch will be helping to bring epilepsy “Out in the Open” by taking part in a local sponsored walk.

The walk will start at 10am and will take place at Abbey Gardens up to Nowton Park and back again on Sunday May 20 2007 and is just one of many happening throughout the UK to celebrate National Epilepsy Week (20 - 26 May). Nationwide, thousands of people will be walking to bring epilepsy into the open and to raise vital funds for Epilepsy Action.

Scott Taylor says: “This is the first event that we will be holding on behalf of Epilepsy Action. We are still forming our branch so anyone who would like to come along to the walk and support us is more than welcome.”

He continues: “We are also holding some other fundraising events throughout the month. This is a first chance for our branch to raise funds of our own and it is important to help us build in the future as a branch”

In addition to holding their walk the Bury St Edmunds branch will be having a stand at the library in Bury St Edmunds from Monday 21 May until Friday 25 May 9am until 5pm. On Wednesday 23 May the branch will be holding a street collection from 9am until 5pm outside Marks and Spencer’s. And on Saturday 26 May the branch will be holding a flag day on the market from 8am until 5pm, the market stall is opposite Thomas Cooke.

Epilepsy Action needs to recruit as many walkers and walk organisers as possible if it is to reach this year’s overall fundraising target of £50,000. More information can be found at http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/wongawalks

The money raised will help fund vital advice and information services provided by the charity. Epilepsy Action has a network of branches across the UK and now directly helps more than 550,000 people every year.
