A Hemel Hempstead man is preparing to lace up his running shoes to complete the British 10k London Run. Kyle Stephens will take part in aid of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation.
Kyle, 27, will join 25,000 others in running 10 kilometres through the heart of London on Sunday 10 July, to help support the 456,000 people with epilepsy in the UK. Much of the course will be the same as the route being used for the men's and women's Olympic marathon courses in 2012. Kyle is running for Epilepsy Action as a close family friend has the condition.
Kyle said: “This is a personal challenge for me, but it’s really about raising awareness of epilepsy and raising funds for an important cause. My family has had first-hand experience of epilepsy and so I know how important it is that charities like Epilepsy Action exist.”
Kyle hopes to raise £250 for Epilepsy Action. The money raised will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by the charity.
After this event, Kyle is going to double his distance and complete two half marathons, Run to the Beat in London in September and the Adidas Northampton Half Marathon next March. He is also waiting to find out if he has secured a place in the 2012 Virgin London Marathon.
Epilepsy Action still has guaranteed places available in the Bupa Great North Run (18 September) and the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon (9 October). To sign up or find out more, call 0113 210 8800 or email events@epilepsy.org.uk
Epilepsy affects one in every 131 people in the UK alone and 75 people are diagnosed with the condition every day. Last year Epilepsy Action directly helped over 845,000 people through a range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050, branch network, specialist nurse scheme and award-winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk
