A Hingham woman is preparing to pull on her walking shoes to support Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.
Mary Graydon has organised an Epilepsy Action Wonga Walk at Whitlingham Broad at 10.30am on Sunday 15 May. The 2.5 mile Wonga Walk will start at Whitlingham Little Broad car park. Mary, a retired epilepsy specialist nurse, has organised a walk for Epilepsy Action in Norfolk for several years and hope around 80 walkers will join in this year. She hopes to continue her campaign to raise awareness of epilepsy by continuing to fundraise for Epilepsy Action.
The walk has been organised to mark National Epilepsy Week (15-21 May). The week aims to raise awareness of epilepsy and raise funds to help support the 456,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK.
Mary said: “I am doing my best to raise awareness of epilepsy by continuing to raise funds for Epilepsy Action. The walk is a great event for everyone and people of all ages and abilities can take part. The route is suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs and dogs and there is plenty of wildlife and water activity to see along the way. It is also great for socialising as you meet familiar and new faces through this walk.”

Epilepsy affects one in every 131 people in the UK alone and 75 people are diagnosed with the condition every day. Last year Epilepsy Action directly helped over 845,000 people through a range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050, branch network, specialist nurse scheme and award-winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk
