Lowestoft woman hosts charity event in memory of boyfriend

1 August, 2012

A Lowestoft woman, whose boyfriend had epilepsy, is organising an evening of music for family and friends for charity.

Alexandra Gough will host the event on Saturday 18 August in memory of Oliver Scott-Greenard. Oliver died in November 2011 as a result of an epileptic seizure when he was just 19. In his memory, Alexandra will be raising vital funds for national charity Epilepsy Action. The charity provides advice and support to the 600,000 people with epilepsy in the UK.

Alexandra, 19, explains: “I want to hold a night to remember Oliver through music, as music was a big part of his life. All the people performing knew Ollie, including his younger sister Isobel, who is 13. I’m really looking to getting all of Ollie’s friends and family under one roof to remember him and the good times we shared, and just to come together for each other. I hope it will be a fun night to get everyone singing and dancing in memory of Ollie.”

Kath Barker, fundraising officer at Epilepsy Action, said: “We’re very grateful to Alexandra and all Oliver’s family and friends for fundraising for Epilepsy Action. The money they have raised in Oliver’s memory will make a huge difference to the lives of people affected by epilepsy. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved.”

All proceeds from the evening will go to Epilepsy Action. Oliver’s family and friends have already raised over £8,000 for the charity on an online tribute page for him. The money raised by will help to support the charity’s work all over the UK. Epilepsy Action campaigns to improve epilepsy services and raise awareness of epilepsy. It also provides a national network of support groups, funds a specialist nurse scheme, holds regular regional conferences and has a freephone and email helpline.

Epilepsy affects around one in every 100 people in the UK alone and 87 people are diagnosed with the condition every day. Last year Epilepsy Action directly helped 1.1 million people through its range of services.
