Epilepsy Action is holding a week of events in Colchester to mark National Epilepsy Week (May 20-26).
An advice and information afternoon for anyone with an interest in the condition is being held in the Grand Jury Room at Colchester Town Hall on May 22, 2007.
The event will take place from 2.00pm until 5.00 pm when Epilepsy Action staff and volunteers, including Sheila Baker, accredited volunteer and chair of the Colchester branch, will be available throughout the afternoon to answer questions about epilepsy in confidence.
Information will also be displayed at Colchester General Hospital and at Colchester Cornerstone, 5-7 Sir Isaac’s Walk, in the town centre. Volunteers will be available at various times throughout the week to offer advice.
David Powell, regional services manager for Epilepsy Action in Central England, said: “These events are free of charge and are a great opportunity for people with epilepsy, their families, friends or carers to find out useful information about the condition. As well as having people there to talk to, we will also have a range of leaflets available for people to pick up.”
For more information on the events, telephone Sheila Baker on 01206 546446.
The Colchester branch holds regular meetings to support people with epilepsy and their families and carers. This enables them to discuss their experiences with others in similar situations. The branch also provides a confidential epilepsy information and support service at Colchester Cornerstone, covering non-medical aspects of living with epilepsy (education, employment, sports and leisure, etc).
As well as organising social and fundraising events, an accredited volunteer from the branch gives presentations to schools, employers, youth groups and health-based organisations on supporting people with epilepsy. To join the Colchester branch or for more information, telephone Sheila Baker on 01206 546446.
