New epilepsy coffee and chat group in Norwich

16 August, 2012

Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is launching a coffee and chat group for people with epilepsy in the Norwich area.

The group is launching on Monday 20 August 2012 from 7.00pm until 9.00pm at The Forum Café, 2 Millennium Plain, Bethel Street, Norwich. Subsequent meetings will take place on the first and third Monday of every month at the same venue.

Julie Clark, Epilepsy Action’s local services manager, said: “Meeting together over a cuppa to share experiences is something that is a great support to many people living with epilepsy. It can make a big difference to meet other people who understand where you are coming from and be accepted and understood. Everyone is welcome, whether you have epilepsy or know someone who does.”

The coffee and chat group is launched as Epilepsy Action’s Norwich Branch closes later this autumn, after 20 successful years. Dedicated branch officers, Pam Whittaker, and Eileen Ward, were presented with certificates for their outstanding work at the group’s summer garden party in Hellesdon on 6 August.

Volunteers will continue to hold the annual sponsored walk in aid of Epilepsy Action. The new coffee and chat group at the forum will provide an ongoing and informal way for people to meet and support each other locally.

Epilepsy affects one in every 103 people in the UK alone and 87 people are diagnosed with the condition every day. Last year Epilepsy Action directly helped over 1.1 million people through a range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline, branch network, specialist nurse scheme and award-winning website.
