An Oxfordshire woman, who has epilepsy, is preparing to put the kettle on as part of Epilepsy Action’s National Tea Break. Jenny Mateo has organised a tea break to celebrate her birthday and help raise funds for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation.
The event will take place at 2pm on Saturday 13 August – Jenny’s birthday – at Bridge House, Wallingford Road in Shillingford, Oxfordshire.
Jenny, who is originally from Oxfordshire but now lives in Canterbury, said: “I have epilepsy and want to raise awareness of the condition and help breakdown the stigma associated with epilepsy. I am looking forward to being brave and speaking up about living with epilepsy. If I can raise some much-needed funds for Epilepsy Action and challenge some of the social stigma surrounding epilepsy, it will be the best birthday present of all.”
Since 2003, over 1,100 Tea Breaks have taken place, raising over £100,000 to help fund the vital information and advice services provided by Epilepsy Action. The money raised from National Tea Break will help support the 456,000 people with epilepsy in the UK.

Epilepsy affects one in every 131 people in the UK alone and 75 people are diagnosed with the condition every day.
