Two women from St Albans, who have been affected by epilepsy, are taking part in the St Albans Half Marathon. Nicola MacKinnon and Beccy Pile will be raising vital funds for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.
Beccy’s son Luke has epilepsy so the two women wanted to do something to raise awareness of the condition and raise money to support Epilepsy Action’s work. They will join thousands of others in attempting to walk the 13.1 mile course on Sunday 13 June.
Nicola, who is Luke’s godmother, said: “Epilepsy Action is a great charity that offers information, support and advice to families coping with epilepsy. They do lots of work in schools which enables more kids to have their epilepsy managed in school and like Luke, attend mainstream school.”
“Training for the event has been a great way to get fit and see more of the local area during training. At the moment, 13 miles feels a long way but we’re looking forward to the challenge and having a big family picnic to celebrate when we finish.”
Nicola and Beccy have already raised over £500 to help support the 456,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK. To support Nicola and Beccy, please visit www.justgiving.co.uk/Nicola-MacKinnon. The money raised will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action.
Epilepsy Action still has guaranteed places available in the Royal Parks Half Marathon and the Bupa Great South Run in October. To find out more about these, and other Epilepsy Action events, visit www.epilepsy.org.uk/involved or call the fundraising team on 0113 210 8800.
