A Stowmarket woman has been appointed as a trustee of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.
Jayne Cage was elected to the Epilepsy Action's Council of Management on 13 June at the charity's annual general meeting. As a Council member, Jayne will be responsible, along with 15 other members, for determining the policies of Epilepsy Action. Council members are also collectively responsible for overseeing the management of the charity.
Jayne has supported the work of Epilepsy Action for several years. As part of Epilepsy Action’s project to raise awareness of epilepsy in education, Jayne provided training to Suffolk primary schools on supporting children with epilepsy.
Jayne said: "I was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 12. After successful neurosurgery for uncontrolled complex partial seizures, I have been fortunate to be seizure free for 18 years. I have been a member of Epilepsy Action for at least 14 years and have given support to others due to have neurosurgery."
"I value being a member of the Council so that I can further support Epilepsy Action and its members."
Phil Lee, chief executive at Epilepsy Action, said: "Jayne has worked tirelessly to support people affected by epilepsy over the years. We are delighted that she has been appointed to our Council of Management."
Epilepsy is the most common serious neurological condition in the UK, affecting around 456,000 people. Last year alone, Epilepsy Action directly helped more than 686,500 people through a range of services. These include its advice and information centre and Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050.
