Strap on the walking boots (Norwich)

4 May, 2007

On Sunday May 20, Mary Graydon from Hingham in Norwich will be helping Epilepsy Action to bring epilepsy “Out in the Open” by organising a local sponsored walk.

Nationwide, hundreds of people will be taking part in “Out in the Open” sponsored walks to celebrate National Epilepsy Week (20 – 26 May).

The walkers will be meeting at 10.30am at Little Whitlingham Broad Car Park. The walk is two and a quarter miles long and will take place just outside Norwich city centre, where a new Broad has been developed for recreational activities. The walk takes a circular route around the Broad, which is a wildlife reserve and is also used for kayaking, wind surfing and boating.

Mary says: “A walk has been organised each year in Norwich for several years and when I retired as a Sapphire Epilepsy Specialist Nurse, I decided to continue organising them. I still want to help raise money for Epilepsy Action and also to raise awareness of the condition. We are hoping over 100 people will take part in the walk and that we can smash last year’s total!”

Epilepsy Action needs to recruit as many walkers and walk organisers as possible if it is to reach this year’s fundraising target of £50,000. More information can be found at http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/wongawalks

The money raised will help fund vital advice and information services provided by the charity. Epilepsy Action has a network of branches across the UK and now directly helps more than 550,000 people every year.
