A week to go until Spalding charity auction

7 May, 2010

A Spalding woman, who has epilepsy, is holding a charity auction to raise vital funds for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.

Nicola Fairbanks will be holding the auction on Saturday 15 May at 2.00pm at the 1vo Day Centre, Spalding. Nicola was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was 17 but believes that she was living with the condition undiagnosed for years before that, which is one of the main reasons that she wanted to hold the event.

Nicola is inviting people and businesses across Spalding to donate items for auction at the Ivo Day Centre on Friday 14 May from 3.30pm to 6.00pm and Saturday 15 May from 8.00am to 10.00am. People are then invited to view the items up for auction from 10.00am before the auction gets underway at 2.00pm. Nicola is asking auctioneers to donate ten per cent of the sale price of their items to Epilepsy Action. There will also be a raffle and refreshments will be available throughout.

Nicola said: “I wanted to hold the event to help raise awareness about epilepsy and raise the vital funds. I understand the challenges that people with epilepsy can face and want to do as much as I can to help other people with the condition. I really hope people and businesses in Spalding will help make this event a success by bringing things in to auction, buying something on the day or just coming along to show their support us.”

Nicola hopes to raise as much as possible with the help of local shops and businesses to help support the 456,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK. The money raised by Nicola will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action.
