Pam Milne, stalwart of the Stamford Branch of Epilepsy Action, has won a national award in recognition of her work for the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.
The Epilepsy Action Branch Member of the Year Award will be presented to Pam by Epilepsy Action’s Chief Executive, Philip Lee, on Thursday 31 May from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, at The Meeting Room, Stamford and Rutland Hospital, Ryhall Road, Stamford.
Pam, a dedicated member of the Stamford Branch, won the award for supporting the group’s fundraising and social events since 1997, when she joined the branch. She has also supported many people with epilepsy.
Julie Clark, Epilepsy Action’s manager for central England, said: “Pam has been attending the branch since the first meeting in 1997, and has been treasurer since this time too. Pam’s son Stuart “was her shadow” at branch meetings and was also a valued member of the team.
“Stuart had epilepsy but tragically passed away very suddenly in 2009. Pam understandably finds it very difficult to go to branch meetings since, as he isn’t there. Despite this, she continues to be the branch’s treasurer and still keeps in touch with and supports other branch members.
The branch say that Pam is a valued member and friend and they are so pleased that she carried on. She has overcome a lot during the past few years and she deserves to be recognised.”
Pam Milne said: “I feel very honoured to receive this award and would lie to thank everyone involved. The meeting’s were part of Stuart’s life and he made many friends there. ”
The Stamford Branch meetings are open to anyone with an interest in epilepsy. There are opportunities to access detailed information about living with the condition and to learn how to get involved in raising epilepsy awareness in the area.
The branch meets on the last Wenesday of the month from 6.30pm until 8.30pm at The Meeting Room, Stamford and Rutland Hospital, Ryhall Road, Stamford.
If you are interested in joining the branch, please contact Jill on 01780 765 446.
