Heavy metal charity event set to rock Nottingham city

28 July, 2010

Charity heavy metal music event Damaged Stock will be returning to Rock City, Nottingham, for a fourth year. The event aims to raise vital funds for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, to help support people living with epilepsy.

The event has been organised in association with Rock City and Nottingham band Evil Scarecrow. The inspiration for the first Damaged Stock event came after a family member of one of the members of Evil Scarecrow was diagnosed with epilepsy. The event gives some of the country's best up and coming heavy metal bands the chance to play at the world famous venue. All of the bands are playing for free to help raise money for Epilepsy Action.

Jen Hill, manager for Evil Scarecrow, said: “The metal scene is full of very generous people. I never cease to be amazed by how many people are willing to travel so far and give their time and talents to raise money for charity. Last year we had a band drive all the way from Brighton to play and one of the audience brought homemade devil horn biscuits for us to sell! Last year we raised £600 for Epilepsy Action; this year we hope to raise even more.”

The band Evil Scarecrow said: “We love playing at Rock City and want to give that chance to some of the excellent bands that we’ve met while gigging around the country. There are so many awesome bands out there that need exposure.”

Damaged Stock takes place from 2.00pm on Saturday 21 August at Rock City.
The event is open to anyone aged 14 and upwards. ID will be required for entry and for over 18s to buy alcohol. The day includes performances from nine UK metal acts.

Advance tickets are £5 and are available from the Rock City box office and all good ticket agents. Tickets on the day will be £7.

The event is also supported by The Heavy Sounds, Kate’s Clothing, UK Metal Underground, Concept Smoke Screen and Rusty Monkey Ltd. For more information about Damaged Stock, contact Jen at jen@evilscarecrow.co.uk or call the Rock City box office on 0871 3100 000.

The money raised from this event will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action. Last year alone the organisation directly helped over 688,000 people through a range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050 and award-winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk
