Ealing Man Runs Half Marathon For Epilepsy

3 October, 2008

A man from West Ealing is in training to run the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon in aid of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.

Simon Parry will be joining hundreds from all over the UK to run through central London on Sunday October 12, in a bid to help support the 456,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK.

The route runs through the four royal parks of London, including Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James's Park, and along the River Thames. The run also takes in many of the city’s iconic landmarks, such as the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and Buckingham Palace.

Simon, who is taking part in the half marathon as a challenge laid down by friends, said: “My mother had epilepsy for the last ten years of her life. I would like to raise money for Epilepsy Action in her memory and also raise awareness of a condition that is so often misunderstood.”

The money raised by Simon will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action. Last year alone the organisation directly helped over 731,000 people through a range of services, including an Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050, its network of branches across the UK and its award-winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk
