Epilepsy Action Branch Member of the Year Award (West London/Ealing)

22 May, 2007

Barbara Hawkins, chair of the West London branch of Epilepsy Action, has won a national award in recognition of her work for the UK’s leading epilepsy charity.

The Epilepsy Action Branch Member of the Year Award will be presented to Barbara in a ceremony held at an epilepsy seminar on Monday, June 4 2007 from 7.15pm until 9.30pm at Ealing Town Hall.

Susan Mistry, Epilepsy Action’s regional services manager for London and the South East, said: “Barbara has been involved with the West London branch for many years, both as a member and chairman. The branch has an excellent team but they all look to her for leadership. She is a model of kindness and common sense, making new members welcome and giving all a chance to participate.”

Barbara is delighted to have been nominated for this prestigious award and said: “It is wonderful for the branch to have nominated me and I do appreciate it. I am very proud of the consistent hard work of the branch members and everybody’s support over the years. Without these, there wouldn’t be a branch.”

The seminar is open to anyone with an interest in epilepsy. The evening’s guest speaker will be Dr Dominic Heaney, consultant neurologist at the National Hospital, Queen Square. There will be opportunities to join the branch as a member and to access detailed information about living with epilepsy. Existing members will provide information about branch activities, and how to get involved in raising epilepsy awareness in the area.

Epilepsy Action has over 100 voluntary branches nationwide. Epilepsy Action offers advice and information about epilepsy via its Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050 and website, www.epilepsy.org.uk.
