Bestselling author named honorary vice-president of epilepsy charity

10 February, 2010

Bestselling author William Fiennes has been chosen as an honorary vice-president of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.

William is the award-winning author of The Snow Geese and The Music Room, both of which have been highly acclaimed. The Music Room is the story of William's childhood growing up with his brother, Richard, who had severe epilepsy.

William said: "I'm really proud to become honorary vice-president of Epilepsy Action, which offers many different kinds of support to people with epilepsy. Readers of The Music Room will understand why Epilepsy Action's work matters to me."

Philip Lee, chief executive at Epilepsy Action, said: "We are delighted that William has agreed to join Epilepsy Action as an honorary vice-president. William's book, The Music Room, is a touching first-hand account of the impact epilepsy can have, not just on those who have the condition, but their families too."

The decision will be formally approved by Epilepsy Action's membership at the charity's annual general meeting in June.

Epilepsy is one of the most common serious neurological conditions in the UK, affecting around 456,000 people. Epilepsy Action directly helps more than 686,500 people each year through a range of services. These include its advice and information service and Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050.
