Coventry craft and music event for epilepsy charity

3 August, 2009

A charity music event, hosted by local music venue, Taylor John's House, will be raising money for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation. The event aims to raise vital funds to support people living with epilepsy in the Coventry area.

The event will take place from 2.00pm on Saturday 15 August at Taylor John's House, Coventry Canal Basin.  Several local musicians will play throughout the day, offering a variety of music appealing to all ages and tastes. Included in the line-up are folk favourites Dave Bennett, Dave Cooper and Rod Felton, as well as saxophonist, Brian Clarke. Young bands Living with the Bear and Polar Rays are scheduled to appear in the evening.

Taylor John's House staff will also be running a barbeque. The event is free and all donations are welcome. There is a suggested minimum donation of £3 to watch the musicians.

Members of the Coventry Branch of Epilepsy Action will also be there on the day. The branch will be running a stall, providing advice and information for anyone interested in finding out more about epilepsy.  They have also arranged a selection craft stalls and circus performers.

Julie Clark, regional services manager for central England at Epilepsy Action, said:  "The Coventry Branch of Epilepsy Action would like to make contact with people of all ages and backgrounds, who may have been affected by epilepsy. Over 40,000 people in the West Midlands have epilepsy and yet it remains a much misunderstood and overlooked condition. We need to raise as much money as possible to help us improve understanding of epilepsy and raise awareness of the condition. All donations on the day will be gratefully received.

"We are extremely grateful to the young people and musicians who have helped put this event together. We'd also like to say a big thank you to the staff at Taylor John's for hosting their music event in aid of Epilepsy Action. We hope the people of Coventry will come along and support what will be a great day out."

Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK. The branches hold regular meetings and offer a variety of social events and informative talks and discussions relating to epilepsy. The meetings offer the opportunity for people to share their experiences of living with epilepsy and also raise awareness of the condition.

The Coventry Branch of Epilepsy Action meets at 7.30pm on the fourth Thursday of each month at the Friends Meeting House, Hill Street, Coventry. For more information, please contact Julie Clark on 01684 833 834 or email jclark@epilepsy.org.uk
