Epilepsy Action Launches New Website

13 June, 2008

Epilepsy Action has re-launched its award-winning website – www.epilepsy.org.uk - to make it easier to use and more accessible to people with disabilities.

The dynamic new Web 2.0 site offers users the opportunity to personalise their homepage to enable them to receive email alerts on topics of specific interest.  They will also be able to set up their own blogs, and access practical tools either online or by downloading.

Digital media manager, Mark Morton, said: “Our new website allows us to develop one to one relationships with service users.  What we are offering is genuine interactivity, with people able to contribute to, and comment on, the site and share their experiences, rather than just download our information.

“In this way we are creating an active partnership between Epilepsy Action and different audiences, stakeholders, people living with the condition, their family and friends. It enables us to provide them with both information and shared experience.”

The new site has been built by Cheshire-based Ixis IT, using the open source content management platform Drupal.  The company worked closely with the charity’s digital media team to offer the latest techniques and web technologies.

Epilepsy Action was one of the first charities in the UK to create its own website 11 years ago.  It currently receives over 135,000 visits a month and is Europe’s most popular website.
