Dear Sir/Madam,
Epilepsy Action is searching for a successful, high profile professional to spearhead a campaign on employment to mark this year’s National Epilepsy Week (May 20-26). And it could be one of your readers.
Due to a lack of understanding among employers and the general public many people with epilepsy rarely admit to having the condition. The person we are looking for will act as a role model for the 456,000 people with epilepsy in the UK, many of whom face discrimination in the workplace.
Epilepsy is covered by the Disability Discrimination Act and statistics show that only 50 per cent of disabled people are in work. As the UK’s leading epilepsy charity, we are aiming to tackle the problem of discrimination at work from the point of view of the person with epilepsy, as well as countering the concerns and misapprehensions of employers and fellow employees.
If you, or any of your readers, know of someone whose significant record of achievement demonstrates that people with epilepsy can be successful in their chosen field, please contact us at Epilepsy Action on 0113 210 8800, or email press@epilepsy.org.uk.
Yours faithfully,
Ingrid Burns
(PR and campaigns manager)
