Dean Street nightclub, Maya (‘Voted Best New Club’ at the London Bar and Club Awards 2008), hosted a Sixth Form Leavers Ball and helped to raise around £1500 for the UK’s leading member-led epilepsy charity, Epilepsy Action.
The event, held on July 4, was in honour of a past pupil who sadly passed away following a seizure. The students had chosen to fundraise for Epilepsy Action because they wanted to raise awareness of epilepsy.
Fee Lentle, music manager and mother of two of the pupils, organised the ball. She said: “A huge thank you to the wonderful guys at Maya whom without tonight may never have been possible! Sam, Matt and Mr Big! You’re the most helpful and generous people with your time, expertise and never ending helpfulness coupled with Mr Big’s generosity, thank you, thank you, thank you! Looking forward to a many visits to Maya London voted best club 2008, you guys really know how to partttayy!”
Samantha from Maya said: “We do a lot of work with Fee, and will be in future. We knew Fee really wanted to raise money for this charity.”
Donations from Maya, set the charity auction off to a great start. Extreme Design of Sunningdale provided a champagne reception, before pupil Sarah Middleton, greeted guests with her bag pipes and led them to dinner. The entertainment didn’t stop there! Woodstock of Ascot donated a huge floor cushion for the Shisha lounge on the balcony, and guests were treated to a performance after dinner by singer, Shea Rafferty. The school leavers received goody bags, packed with generous donations from Fake Bake, Green and Blacks, and Love One Water.
The money raised by the Sixth Form Leavers will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action. Last year alone the organisation directly helped over 731,000 people through a range of services including its Epilepsy Helpline, advice and information centre, branch network and award winning website www.epilepsy.org.uk
