National charity names Blackpool MP as vice-president

5 October, 2010

National charity Epilepsy Action has chosen Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard as one of its vice-presidents.

Paul has epilepsy and knows first-hand how it can affect the lives of people with the condition.

Paul said: "I'm delighted to become a vice-president of Epilepsy Action. The charity’s vision is to live in a world where everyone understands epilepsy. Knowing first-hand the misconceptions people can have about the condition, this is certainly something I feel strongly about. I hope that by supporting the charity and being open about my own epilepsy, I can raise awareness of the condition and help to remove the stigma surrounding it.”

Philip Lee, chief executive at Epilepsy Action, said: "We are delighted that Paul has agreed to join Epilepsy Action as a vice-president. The fact he has personal experience of living with epilepsy will be a real benefit to us and our members.”

Epilepsy is one of the most common serious neurological conditions in the UK, affecting around 456,000 people.  Epilepsy Action directly helps more than 688,000 people each year through a range of services.
