A Newick woman has been chosen as a winner in this year's National Doodle Day competition.

17 July, 2009

Carrie Lewis, 28, was one of hundreds to take part in National Doodle Day earlier this year. The fun event is held annually in aid of two charities, Epilepsy Action and the Neurofibromatosis Association. Members of the public are invited to submit doodles into the national competition.

Carrie, who is a gifts and accessories designer at Hailsham-based Disaster Designs, received a £500 prize and a certificate of recognition for her doodle. Carrie has now joined a host of celebrities in having her winning doodle displayed in the doodle Hall of Fame at www.nationaldoodleday.org.uk

Carrie has been an avid doodler for the past few years and will be soon be launching a jewellery range based around some of her doodled characters.
She said: "Like most doodles, mine all came about without me even noticing. They crept up on unsuspecting bits of paper unannounced. Before I knew it I would have scribbled something down on the corner of a newspaper, the back of my hand or a table top. After a few nice words from a few nice people, I started to doodle with purpose - and I haven’t stopped since.
"I was really happy to take part in the National Doodle Day competition as it was for a good cause and sounded really fun. I am thrilled that my doodle has been chosen as the winner!"

The event, which this year included a charity auction of around 400 celebrity doodles, along with a schools competition, has raised more than £185,000 over the last six years.  The money raised will help fund the advice and support services provided by Epilepsy Action and the Neurofibromatosis Association.
